Air Conditioning Installation Costs

Most people want a number before they want a conversation, so here it is. A single room costs £1,500 to £1,800 including VAT, supplied and installed, subject to survey.

That is a real figure from real jobs, not a headline price with the conditions buried underneath. Below is what sits inside it, what moves it, and why we will not give you a final number without seeing the room.

What is included

For a standard single-room installation, the price covers:

  • One indoor unit, sized for the room rather than guessed at
  • The outdoor unit
  • Interconnecting pipework, electrical connection and condensate drainage
  • Installation, commissioning and a proper handover so you know how to use it
  • Clearing up, and taking the packaging away with us

What moves the price within the range

Two jobs that sound identical on the phone can sit at opposite ends of that range. What makes the difference:

  • The size of the room and how much heat it gains. A north-facing bedroom and a south-facing garden room are not the same job, even at the same square metres.
  • How far apart the two units are. More pipework costs more.
  • How the pipework is routed. A short run in surface trunking is cheaper than concealing it through the structure.
  • Where the outdoor unit goes and how easy it is to get to it.
  • The make and model. There is a real difference between the quiet, efficient units and the cheap ones, and we would rather explain it than quietly fit the cheap one.

What takes a job above that range

  • Ducted or concealed systems, where the equipment is hidden above the ceiling and only a slim grille shows. More work, and it needs a void to hide it in.
  • More than one room, whether that is separate systems or one outdoor unit serving several indoor units.
  • Difficult access, for example an outdoor position that needs scaffolding rather than a ladder.
  • Electrical work, if your consumer unit cannot take the additional circuit as it stands.
  • Conservation areas and listed buildings, where siting the outdoor unit takes more care and sometimes an application.

We price additional rooms at survey rather than publishing a guess, because the sensible answer depends on whether one outdoor unit can serve them all.

Why we survey before quoting

Anyone who gives you a firm price over the phone is either padding it to cover what they have not seen, or is going to find reasons to increase it later. Neither is much use to you.

The survey is free and it is not a sales visit. We look at the room, work out the heat load properly, find a sensible home for the outdoor unit, check the electrics will take it, and then give you a fixed price. If air conditioning is the wrong answer for your room, we will say so.

What it costs to run

Less than most people expect. A single-room system draws well under the power of a kettle once it has brought the room down to temperature, and modern inverter units spend most of their time ticking over rather than running flat out.

In winter the same unit works as a heat pump. For every unit of electricity it uses it moves roughly three to four units of heat into the room, which usually makes it cheaper to run than an electric heater in that room.

Free survey, fixed price in writing, no pressure afterwards. If the number does not work for you, that is a perfectly good answer.
